In this special Species Spotlight episode, we meet the T-rex of salmon: Hucho Taimen AKA The Mongolian Dinosaur.
Fishery scientist and angler Matt Sloat joins us to talk about his adventures in Russia where he has been studying Taimen. Taimen are the oldest and largest salmon in the world. His research is key to conserving the amazing fish and one of the fish he caught was so large — over 100 lbs — that is classified briefly as a world record.
Tune in to hear about why he loves salmon, why he is studying Taimen, what he has learned, how he fishes for them, and what was running through his head when he was playing the fish.
